Winding down

I’m back from traveling to Dallas for a wedding and Grafton, IL for the Illinois Synergy program. I haven’t been able to check email regularly for about a week, so I apologize if anyone has been waiting for me to reply to them or respond to blog entries.

Many of you have finished all 8 activities and I congratulate you for all your hard work! Please continue to look back on all the activities and reflect on the program as a whole. It would be great if you could each write one additional blog entry summing up your experience with Library2.Oakton.

Others are still working on the various activities and I’m hoping everyone will finish up by the all-library meeting on August 21. Don’t give up! If you need help, there are a lot of people who are willing to help. Feel free to email me or post a plea for assistance on this blog.

And don’t forget, I’ll be at RHC from 9am-12pm on Thursday!

More drop-in sessions scheduled

I’ll be on campus for more drop-in help. Here are the dates that I know of so far:

  • Tuesday, July 29, TBD (edit) 2:00-4:00pm @ the DPC Library classroom, 2nd floor
  • Thursday, July 31, 9:00am-12:00pm @ the DPC Library classroom, 2nd floor
  • Thursday, August 14, 9:00am-12:00pm @ the DPC Library classroom, 2nd floor
Individual appointments are possible as well at either campus. Just email me and let me know when is good for you.

Nearing the finish line

Week 8 is upon us and many of you have done an excellent job of keeping up on a weekly basis and you’re nearing the end. Others are further behind, but that’s okay since there are three weeks set aside in August to catch up and complete the program. Please make sure to write a blog entry about your experience with and thoughts on each week’s topic. Entries don’t need to be incredibly long; it’s more important to geniunely explore the technologies and be thoughtful with your blogging.

Also, please continue to visit your colleagues’ blogs and comment on their entries. It makes the experience of blogging much more interesting and fun!

I’ll be on the Des Plaines campus for a drop-in session on Thursday morning. Remember that you can always ask colleagues for help and/or you can email me with questions.

Good luck!

Drop-in Sessions on Tuesday!

Just a reminder that there are three drop-in sessions scheduled for Tuesday:

  • 11:00am-12:30pm @ the DPC Library classroom, 2nd floor
  • 2:00pm-3:30pm @ the Skokie Campus
  • 4:30pm-6:00pm @ the DPC Library classroom, 2nd floor

Please stop by if you have questions or just want to get away from your desk and devote some time to this program. You can bring up any questions you might have on any of the three weeks’ topics so far. See ya there!

Now, that’s a blog entry!

For me, the best part of administering a learning program like Library2.Oakton is reading participant blogs and reading about all the discovery that is happening for each person. It’s especially nice when you read a blog like this one by our very own Gretchen!

So to everyone who is participating, keep up the good work and make sure you have fun with this stuff. Remember to blog thoughtfully and visit your colleagues’ blogs (and leave comments, of course!).

Before you get started

You’ve heard of Web 2.0 and Library 2.0. Now it’s time to learn about Library 2.Oakton!

This site will be your base for all things related to this program. Each week, I’ll post a new blog post which will explain the week’s topic and its related activities. I’ll also be posting tips, announcements, and more throughout the program’s duration so be sure to check back often.

The first thing you should do is explore this blog and learn more about the program! Here are some good places to start:

If you have any general questions about the program, feel free to contact me at oaktonlibrary@gmail.com or simply leave a comment on this blog.

Have fun!

Welcome to Library 2.Oakton!

I’m just setting this blog up now so there’s not much here yet, but eventually there will be all kinds of information about the Learning 2.0 program that will be used by the faculty and staff at Oakton Community College Library. Stay tuned for more…
